Cait Courneya is a full time artist and textile designer. She lives and works out of her home studio in the Minneapolis area, and thrives in the weather and culture of the Midwest.

Born and raised in the Twin Cities, she decided to go back to school for apparel design in 2006, and moved with her husband to Los Angeles, where she studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She graduated in 2009, and went to work for fashion brands like Monique Lhuillier and Vera Wang.

Cait and her husband moved back to Minneapolis in 2013, and she started freelancing as an illustrator. Initially she focused on fashion illustration, but soon received requests for other types of illustrations. This morphed into a freelance business that included clients such as Oscar de la Renta, Ines di Santo, Veuve Clicquot, and numerous others.

In 2016 Cait began exploring abstract painting. This medium felt natural and inspiring. Since then, Cait has grown her practice and continues to explore her voice as an artist. She also has a line of textile goods, and is drawn to the connection of art and everyday life. She believes that while art can have many purposes, she wants her work to promote peace and calm in the space where it lives. She is inspired by color and natural landscapes, and often creates her color schemes before she begins painting.

To date, her work has been featured in numerous publications, such as Domino Mag, Harper’s Bazaar, Midwest Home, and many others. She has best selling prints on Minted, and was recently involved in a collaboration with Madewell.

When she is not painting, she can be found trying new restaurants with her husband, traveling the world, and spending time with family and friends. She is a devoted dog-mom to little Chloe, and is loving her newest role, Mother! She and her husband welcomed their son, Keats, in May 2021, and are loving parenthood.
